Re: Soft Reset Question...
Do you mean you're at about 100 soft resets after saving your game?
If so, I hear it's safe to turn it off. (might wanna be safe and save once in awhile)
I remember in Pokemon Blue, I kept turning on and off without saving, cause of Zapdos. About 30 resets my game file was erased and I had to make a new one.
This is Pokemon on a DS though, so I don't know the full circumstances. The worse it could possibly be is a corrupt file which would bring you back to the last save point.

Re: Soft Reset Question...
No, I go Soft Reset- Turn Off. Then repeat. I'm trying for a Shiny Torchic.

You don't need to turn off your DS to get a shiny Torchic

Re: Soft Reset Question...
When you Soft Reset, you press A+B+Select+Start (Gameboy)
You need around 10,000 to get Shiny Starter, that's a good goal for SRing.
I'm wondering if Shutting it off would break your "chain"

Re: Soft Reset Question...
oh that makes sense now... no the act of soft resetting does not in turn raise your chances, the only reason that it's recomended is because it's almost like 1 in 10,00 chance of finding a shiny... so shutting off and restarting arn't different... also... that strategy only works on legends... on startes it's raised to 30000 since theres a chance the others will be shiny too... now what you should do is get a torchic in ur ds version and find a foreign breeding companion (japanese french ect.) then breed for torchic, the chances lower signicantly and it's only 1 out of 2000 insted of 1 out of 8000 everstone can help for getting the right nature too...

but then you have to hatch the eggs before knowing if they're shiny or not which could do a number on your thumb and is more time consuming, even if you have a slugma in the party.

Re: Soft Reset Question...
Not to mention that using the everstone for nature breeding on foreign pokemon doesn't work, unfortunately.

Re: Soft Reset Question...
I don't follow this conversation much, but I'd like to say that soft resetting will NOT change nor influence the Gender, Nature or chances of the hatchling being shiny. The Pokemon-to-be is determined when you receive the egg from the Day Care man. I have tested this out by soft resetting the game 10 times before hatching one particular Egg, the outcome is the exact same Pokemon. You would have to breed hundreds maybe thousands of eggs to come close to getting a shiny. But, in some cases, people have great luck hatching shinies in under 100 eggs. I myself have had no such luck. *sad face*
I hope this helps
