The Ferret's Uprising Empty The Ferret's Uprising

Post by ethan06 Sat Jun 26, 2010 1:03 am

Hello.

This is a team for Shoddy that I thought up one day while looking through various NU analyses. Based not around Furret, but as an offensive team, It's made up of many sets made by me (the few that actually worked) and a couple that just looked cool at the time. It's almost definitely a rip-off of FerretFox41's Bibarel team: a NU being used in OU. Sorry Ferret. Very Happy

First Look

The Making Of

The Ferret's Uprising 162

Well, to have a team about Furret, Furret was a must. It's a great TrickScarf lead (Super Fang, Trick, the element of "WTF is that!?") and it can actually tank decently with Toxic and the HP investment.

Now, as another little thing I made up, a Scarf Dragonite. The coverage behind this thing is incredible, and as I normally battle on the Suspect tier where Salamence is banned, it was just too good a possibility to pass up.

I'm going to do all of my own sets first. This is an interesting breed of Ninjask that I created: a Choice Band revenge killer. This Pokémon is great for scouting and taking huge dents out of things. Also, it has great synergy with...

Jolteon is one of the sweepers on this team. I had Electivire here for a while, but it was just too frail to get the job done. It's great for taking out things that threaten the existence of other team members (such as Swampert and other Bulky Waters) with Specs-boosted moves, and takes Thunderbolts and etc. aimed at Ninjask and Starmie.

Ninjask hates - absolutely hates - Stealth Rock. Starmie is backup for when leads go for Stealth Rock first: Usually Furret can Trick a Scarf onto a Taunter and call it a job well done, but I still need Starmie.

Finally, the last piece of the puzzle: a mixed Lucario. This is possibly one of the best Blissey counters in the game when played right. Basically played like a specially-based Agility set, it's natural for a Blissey to try an come in and wall, until Lucario hits out with an Expert Belt-boosted Close Combat.

The Team

The Ferret's Uprising 162 @ The Ferret's Uprising Bag_Choice_Scarf_Sprite
Jolly
Keen Eye
40 HP/252 Spd/216 Sp. Def
- Protect
- Trick
- Super Fang
- Toxic

My lead. This little wormy thing is designed to stop leads in their tracks (Aerodactyl in particular). The idea is Trick off the Scarf and Super Fang to strip the switch-in of half of their health. Protect is to scout Choice users (like the newly Scarfed lead) and to delay a bit. Toxic has good synergy with Protect.

Fighting: Ninjask, Starmie

The Ferret's Uprising 149 @ The Ferret's Uprising Bag_Choice_Scarf_Sprite
Inner Focus
Hasty
40 HP/96 Atk/252 Spd/120 Sp. Atk
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam

Say hello to my first revenger. I primarily use Dragonite to pick off the Steels that Ninjask can't, and to sweep everything else when Starmie can't get to the Rocks in time and they take out Jask. Dragon Claw is for STAB and pwnage, Earthquake hits Tran, Jirachi and Metagross, Fire Blast is for Scizor, Forry, Skarm and Zong, and Ice Beam revenges Mence, non-Scarfed Flygon and other Dragonites (although Dragon Claw can usually do a better job).

Ice: Lucario, Starmie
Rock: Lucario
Dragon: Lucario

The Ferret's Uprising 291 @ The Ferret's Uprising Bag_Choice_Band_Sprite
Speed Boost
Adamant
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
- Aerial Ace
- Night Slash
- U-turn
- X-Scissor

My God, this is great. There's a lot of everything poured into this set: Ninjask outspeeds everything, takes huge chunks out of everything, and just owns everything. Except Steels. I've never used Aerial Ace since I made this, but in theory it's for Heracross, Machamp and Infernape: X-Scissor hits Grasses, Night Slash hits the Rotomses and Gengar, and U-Turn scouts.

Rock: Lucario
Ice: Lucario, Starmie
Fire: Starmie, Dragonite
Electric: Jolteon
Flying: Jolteon

The Ferret's Uprising Spr_4h_135 @ The Ferret's Uprising Bag_Choice_Specs_Sprite
Volt Absorb
Timid
4 HP/252 Spd/252 Sp. Atk
- Baton Pass
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt

Taking a look at all of the Electric-weak Pokémon on this team got me thinking: I'll want to sponge that. Originally an Electivire was here, and it did a good job, but it was revenged too easily and I'd heard from various sources that Jolteon was a lot better, and I like Jolteon anyway, so here it is. Baton Pass is for scouting, HP [Grass] is for Swampert, Shadow Ball is for Celebi and T-Bolt is for STAB. It also works well with Dragonite and Ninjask as the three of them swap Ground and Electric hits. Not much else to say here.

Ground: Ninjask, Dragonite

The Ferret's Uprising 121 @ The Ferret's Uprising Bag_Life_Orb_Sprite
Natural Cure
Timid
4 HP/252 Spd/252 Sp. Atk
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Surf
- Thunderbolt

Starmie is here for one reason, and one reason only: to get rid of Rocks. Dragonite dislikes them and Ninjask hates them, and the whole team has problems with Infernape, so Starmie it was. Starmie also fits into the whole offense genre a lot better than Tentacruel and friends do, especially when handing out Life Orb-boosted Surfs and the like to the various Hippowdon and Infernape that turn up.

Grass: Ninjask, Dragonite, Lucario
Electric: Jolteon
Ghost: Furret
Dark: Lucario
Bug: Dragonite, Lucario, Ninjask

The Ferret's Uprising 448 @ The Ferret's Uprising Bag_Expert_Belt_Sprite
Inner Focus
Naughty
108 Atk/252 Spd/148 Sp. Atk
- Close Combat
- Aura Sphere
- Dark Pulse
- Agility

Okay, this is what holds the team together in terms of weaknesses, and rids the team of walls and tanks, primarily Blissey. The idea is to Agility up and sweep with the two special moves. Wait until Blissey turns up and KO with a Close Combat. It can also function as another answer to spinblockers and physical tanks, as a good Dark Pulse can put any Dusknoir in it's place.

Fire: Starmie, Dragonite
Fighting: Dragonite, Ninjask, Starmie
Ground: Ninjask, Dragonite

Conclusion

Overall, things aren't looking bad. Apart from the bad switches and the mispredictions (that often cost me a Starmie and, subsequently, a Ninjask), this team would tear huge holes in the metagame in the hands of anyone more capable than me.

Not bad at all, and i'm not just saying that cause i use jolteon and starmie (not as a spinner) myself, i never thought of using this set for ferret the way you did

Edit: Oh oh i have spotted one flaw, this may not be an issue i guess but most competeitve battles do not allow you to repeat an item,-shrugs- just saying

Most stall teams have Leftovers at least 3 times.

Looks great. I say that cause I use Furret, Dragonite, Starmie, Lucario, and Ninjask.
I'm not a real fan of dry baton pass though.

Some people don't allow more than 1 type of item, it's really an optional clause, but common at that.

Quick question; what's the point of having Baton Pass on Jolteon? You could just as easily switch out, which stops Pokemon from basically killing you in one hit with a priority move. You could just as easily have another attack in there, like Signal Beam, for Umbreon or Weavile, uncommon as they are.

Dry baton pass has low priority, it kinda works like this

Turn 1
(command)
-Staraptor and Jolteon gets sent out
-Trainer is afraid of Jolteon's super effective attacks so he switches
-Ethan predicts this so they use baton pass
(Battle scene)
-Trainer switched to Sandslash
-Jolteon used Baton Pass
-Ethan thinks who could be a good Sandslash counter and sends out Starmie

I'm still not a real fan of it.

Do you think I should go for SubCharge Beam set and dump Thunderbolt and Baton Pass?

If you do that, Substitute would be useless since Choice Spec is there.

So I'd switch it for Life Orb, and give Starmie a more defensive spread and use Leftovers. How does that sound?

I would never put Substitute in the moveset if the pokemon has life orb. That's too much HP going to waste.
Though I'm just talking from my stall point of view.
